Indian Express Group hosted the second edition of Technology Sabha in Goa. WiMAX implementation for 250 machines in the university was discussed.
WiMAX is a term coined to describe a technology standard in a rather similar way to Wi-Fi being interoperable implementations Wireless LAN standard. However, WiMAX is very different from Wi-Fi in the way it works. WiMax can spread a wireless Internet signal over several miles, a long-range version of the popular short-range wireless Internet technology, Wi-Fi, found in airports, coffee shops and many homes.
WiMAX is a standardized wireless technology designed to offer connectivity and new services in a metropolitan area network (MAN). WiMax is just emerging. WiMax can be a reusable network for mobile data, DSL replacement, video distribution and real 4G wireless. WiMax-based systems are expected to deliver up to 40Mbit/sec. of data per channel over as much as six miles. Many companies are closely examining WiMAX for “last mile” connectivity at high data rates. This could result in lower pricing for both home and business customers as competition lowers prices. This is an added advantage for the University to set-up WiMax.
Suitable WiMax technology if implemented in Goa will result is high technological advancement of the state thereby helping overall development.
