Willy stresses need to make Goa ideal place for scouting

The Deputy Chairman of Planning Board and President of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State Dr Wilfred de Souza has underscored the need to make Goa an ideal place for scouting and guiding and it should be promoted by each one of us because scouting, he said is a good movement as it teaches discipline and inculcates good values and helps make good citizens.Dr de Souza was speaking at the award distribution ceremony of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State in Panjim today.

Speaking further Dr. de Souza said, there is not substitute to hard work and that hard work always pays. He congratulated the recipients of all the awards and wished them success in life.

A total 32 scouts and guides were presented with awards for their highest contribution during the Bob-a-Job week. Eight adult teachers were honoured for their tireless contribution to the scouting and guiding movement.

Scoutmaster Late Baba Sukhtankar award for Best Scouter and Best Guider were presented to Scouter Tukaram Patil and Guider Meera Ritinha Fernandes.

State Training Commissioner Mr Diogo Fernandes received the award for long service in the movement.

State Chief Commissioner Mr R G Dessai also spoke on the occasion. State Secretary Adv Vinayak Narvekar presented the report of activities while State Training Commissioner (Guides) Ms Elizabeth Mascarenhas compered the function.

State Commissioner (Guides) Ms Iona Pinto was also present.

The State Commissioner (Scouts) Mr T E Philip welcomed the gathering while state Organsing Commissioner (Scouts) Mr Krishnath Chopdekar proposed a vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, a ten days residential basic course for scoutmasters and guidecaptains is underway at Don Bosco Provicarate at Odxel in Taleigao

Ms Laximi Chari, Education Officer of Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sanghattan Bangalore region inaugurated the residential basic course.

Speaking on the occasion she said that scouting movement aims at peace, harmony and friendship.

Principal of KVS Vasco, Mr V D Mishra and Adv Vinayak Narvekar Secretary of Bharat Scouts and Guides Association Goa State were also present and guided the campers.

The camp is being attended by 45 scoutmasters from Goa and Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sanghattan Schools from Karnataka and Kerala.

 The camp is managed by State Training Commissioner, Mr Diogo Fernandes assisted by Mr Rajendra Kumar Rane. State Commissioner Mr T E Philip proposed a vote of thanks.
