The state Nationalist Congress Party chief, Dr Wilfred De Sousa today said the political developments indicate that Goa would go for a mid-term poll.
He said the possibilities were strong as the Centre after sorting out one crisis is faced with a bigger one, and this time it is inflation. He observed that this crisis was a very serious one as rising prices affect everyone.
Stating that the decisions that were taken at the coordination committee about the portfolios of finance and PWD have still not been implemented, Dr De Souza was categorical that the political situation in Goa was very unstable and anytime anything can happen.
I feel that with what has happened in the past months — the attempts to pull down the government — one cannot say what can happen in the days ahead, he said.
He was of the opinion that it was a good thing that the vote-on-account was passed peacefully.
Speaking on the recent visit of the all-India Congress committee general-secretary in-charge of Goa desk, Mr B K Hariprasad, the state NCP chief observed, I feel the main mission of Mr Hariprasad coming to Goa was to attempt to calm down the things.
He added that the very fact that Mr Hariprasad did not call meeting with the CLP and GPCC underlined that he came for information.
Dr De Souza informed that he met Mr Hariprasad yesterday afternoon as a member of the coordination committee as he wanted to know what were his plans.
On the induction of the Taleigao MLA, Mr Atanasio Monserrate into the state cabinet, he confirmed that earlier a promise was made to Mr Monserrate by the Congress and that promise needed to be kept.
He informed that he did not discuss the Mickky-Churchill spat with Mr Hariprasad.
Dr De Souza observed that the spat was not so serious to concern the NCP. However, he said that there was one matter that concerned the NCP and that was the promise made by Mr Francisco Xavier Pacheco to MLA, Mr Shyam Satardekar that he would be made minister. The high command has been informed about this statement as he does not have the right to make such a statement, he said. He informed that as a member of the working committee he would be going for its meeting in May.
The meeting was supposed to have been held in on April 10 but was postponed, he informed.
