Internationally renowned Goan fashion designer Wendell Rodricks will showcase his creations using ‘Ahimsa silk’-silk made of yarn derived from cocoons without killing the silkworms-on the occasion of World Ahimsa Day on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.

Creations of several other local designers and artists using the same fabric will also be on show at the unique event organized by Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited, said its chairman Sameer Salgaonkar on Tuesday.

The event, which will be held at the ESG art gallery at Campal from October 2 to 4, will be inaugurated by chief minister Digambar Kamat.

Among the items on display will be dresses, scarves, ties and lampshades.

Apart from the work of local designers, the exhibition will also have on display works of students of Goa College of Home Science, Government Polytechnic and Goa College of Art. The technique of deriving silk without killing the silkworms was invented by an Indian, Kusuma Rajaiah, in 1991, who has patented the process, one of the organizers of the event said.
