Shack owners from Cavelossim and other places met Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar here on Thursday and complained that shacks have been allotted on the beaches by the Directorate of Tourism by ignoring the affidavit filed in the court. Incidentally, these shack owners, who have been demanded a review of the policy, have filed a contempt of the order passed by the high court, which is expected to come up for hearing in the court on Friday.

They told Leader of the Opposition that the Director of Tourism has allotted the beach shacks despite filing an affidavit in the High Court that the allotments of shacks and the place at which shack is to be erected are made by draw of lots.

Goa: Shacks

The shack owners recalled that the Tourism Department’s affidavit had clearly stated that the draw of lots will be held in such a manner that the applicant who gets the allotment also gets the number, ie the place at which shack is allotted, making it very clear that the place at which the shack is allotted is also by draw of lots. They, however, complained that the Tourism Department has already allotted the shacks without following the letter and spirit of the affidavit, and told Parrikar that some of the shack owners have even begun erecting the shacks on Thursday.
