The newly installed president of the state unit of the Congress party, has said that his priority would be to strengthen the base of the party in every nook and corner of the state and take government and parties policies to the people so that they get benefit of them.
Addressing his maiden press conference after taking over the presidentship from Mr Ravi Naik, Mr Sardinha said that he would work for party’s close coordination with the government and ensure that the Congress manifesto was implemented for the benefit of the common man.
Replying to a question on the report of the assessment committee on the last assembly elections, the new GPCC president said that he has not studied the report so far but went on to add that he would study it and would rectify the mistakes where the party went wrong. He also said that party would be geared up to face coming elections and also win them.
Mr Sardinha said that all the party MLAs were united, while replying to a question on their unity adding that the unity and loyalty to the party was shown by them during the recent attempt to destabilise the government by refusing to accept the “bait” thrown by the perpetrators of the move.
He also said that he was not aware whether Ms Victoria Fernandes, the party’s MLA facing disqualification for defying whip, has sought condonation of her act.
As regards to the Save Goa Party led by Mr Churchill Alemao supporting the government, Mr Sardinha said that any party that does not enjoy clear majority has to take support of others to form the government, even as he said that any party that was not with the Congress combine was an enemy.
Replying to another question on forming pre-poll coalitions, he said that if one was sure of winning the elections on his own why would there by any coalition.
Responding to another question on the controversies regarding the floating casinos, the new GPCC president said that there are already some casinos operating in the state and that they formed part of promotion of tourism. He said that the issue would be studied thoroughly and that the government would do anything that was good for the state and its people.
