Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is likely to buy a stake in champion Indian soccer side Dempo Sports Club, media reports said on Friday.
According to reports, Khan will buy a 50 percent share in the Goan club. Owner of Dempo SC, Shrinivas Dempo, was quoted as saying to The Economic Times that he met Khan several times and
the talks “have been very positive, though not yet closed”. Dempo SC is one of the successful soccer clubs in the history of Indian soccer as it has won I-League crown five times.
Dempo originated from Bicholim Sports Club which played in the Goa First Division League from 1960. In 1966, the club was taken over by Vasantrao Dempo and Michael D’Souza and rechristened as Dempo Club. Khan’s association with sports is not new as he co-owns the current Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last Sunday to lift their maiden title.
