Hitting out at the chief minister Manohar Parrikar for not reacting to Shri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik’s statement that Parrikar would inaugurate the Shri Ram Sena unit in Goa, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai also launched a scathing attack on South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha.
While addressing mediapersons on Saturday, Sardesai criticized Sardinha for taking a u-turn on Shri Ram Sena and insinuated that “the sudden volte face could perhaps be to get pardoned for a criminal case registered with the CID Crime Branch in January 2004 under Prevention of Corruption Act”. Sardesai ridiculed the recent statements made by Sardinha where he advised Shri Ram Sena to do social work and questioned how alleged anti-social elements could do social work. ”I condemn the volte face by the Congress on the issue of entry of Ram Sena in the state and attribute this to the intentions of certain Congress leaders to qualify for the amnesty scheme wherein Parrikar has declared his intention to withdraw cases against politicians,” said Sardesai.
“A case under Prevention of Corruption Act involving the family of yet another senior Congress leader has been withdrawn by the present BJP government and hence the hope that certain Congress leaders harbor in their minds is to be treated with kid gloves by the present government,” alleged Sardesai. The first-time legislator further added that the minorities who voted for BJP expected the chief minister to at least publicly snub Muthalik and “let him know that he is not welcome in Goa and that the chief minister has nothing to do with him”.
