The Agassaim police have registered an offence against six men for organising a bullfight at Goa Velha early Saturday morning, but only two persons were arrested as the rest absconded. The two arrested men were released on bail later in the day.
According to Panaji sub-divisional police officer DySP Sammy Tavares, the Agassaim police arrested Francis Fernandes alias Challa from Dando, Goa Velha and Alvaro Valles from Batim under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Both were later released on bail.

But Agassaim police also registered the offence against four more man: Ryan Fernandes, Anthony D’Costa, Mariano Caiado and Vincy D’Souza. Police are looking out for these men since all are absconding, police said.
Reportedly, a large number of people had assembled at Dando, Goa Velha for the bullfight scheduled for 7 am on Saturday. Sources said the bullfight had already begun when someone tipped off Agassaim police about the event. As police arrived, the crowds dispersed. Police, however, managed to arrest the two accused, who were later bailed out. Police sources said Saturday’s bullfight was the first in the village after a lull of almost one year.
