The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned a mega project of Rs 4309.01 lakh in the current financial year for Goa for Integrated Development of Infrastructure for Heritage and Hinterland Tourism, which includes eco-tourism components. This was informed by the Union Minister of Tourism, Ms Ambika Soni to Mr Shantaram Naik in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, on Tuesday.

Ms Soni further informed Mr Naik that the government of Goa, under the Western Ghat Development Programme, has developed basic facilities of accommodation, Nature Interpretation Centre, Nature Library, etc for promotion of eco-tourism at Bondla and Mollem.

The Ministry of Tourism extends Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to the state governments/UT administrations for development of tourism products including water sports on beaches under product/Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits Scheme of the Ministry, on the basis of proposals received from them, subject to availability of funds and interse priority, she informed Mr Naik, in reply to another question.

However, she said that no such project proposal for water sports on beaches has been submitted by the government of Goa during the current financial year. In reply to another question, the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Independent Charge), Mr Praful Patel informed Mr Naik that presently, Sri Lankan Airlines, Condor Airlines and Transaero Airlines provide 3, 2 and 5 services a week from Colombo, Frankfurt and Moscow/St Petersburg to Goa respectively.

He added that Air India has 5 and 3 service a week on the Bangalore Goa Dubai and Chennai-Goa Kuwait sectors respectively. Apart from these, any authorised carrier can provide connectivity to tourists by international charter flights to/from Goa. Goa is available as a point of call to the designated airline (s) of 14 countries apart from the Indian carriers operating to international destinations. However, actual operation by airlines is guided by their commercial judgment, Mr Patel further informed Mr Naik.
