In a major fire that broke out at the premises of D-Link (India) Pvt Ltd in Verna Industrial Estate on Tuesday morning, electronic goods including two major UPS systems, personal computers, laptops, cables and furniture worth Rs 25 lakh were completely destroyed.
According to information provided by manager (administration) of the company, Mr Rajesh Prabhu, fire broke out at around 8.15 a.m. in the D-Tac unit wherein battery backups were installed in the UPS room. The company staff and the security personnel were alerted due to the sophisticated fire alarm system installed in the premises.
As the company has its own fire fighting equipment, the staff which fought the blaze for about fifteen minutes were successful in saving property worth crores, before the Goa State fire tender based at Verna IDC could arrive, informed Mr Prabhu. He further said the internal fire fighting equipment in the company premises was an advantage during such emergencies.
Later, on arrival of the fire tender, fire personnel succeeded in extinguishing the flames which were brought under control at around 10.30 a.m. According to the primary investigation carried out, the fire broke out due to a short circuit.
