The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat on Saturday said that the nuclear deal with the United States will benefit India’s development and said that the deal has received support from former president, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and former political advisor of former prime minister, Mr Brijesh Mishra.Mr Kamat was speaking at the flagging off ceremony of Parmanu Shakti Vijay Yatra, a rally organised by the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress on the 123 agreement between India and the United states, in Margao, Saturday morning.
The Rajya Sabha MP, Mr Shantaram Naik speaking on the occasion made a scathing attack on the BJP for making the nuclear deal a political issue.

He said that the BJP government led by Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee had made an attempt to come out with a similar deal, however, it turned out to be unsuccessful. The Congress-led government became successful and that’s why the BJP is opposing it, Mr Naik pointed out.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Luizinho Faleiro said that the youth are the strength of the party and that the Youth Congress should go to every village and tell the people about the deal. The motorcade rally was given a warm welcome on its arrival at Chicalim junction.
The rally, headed by GPYCC president, Mr Sankalp Amonkar and the other executive members, then moved through the city of Vasco.
Among those present while welcoming the rally were, Chicalim sarpanch, Mr Anacleto D’Souza, acting sarpanch of Sancoale panchayat, Mr Ramakant Borkar, Chicolna-Bogmalo sarpanch, Mr Laxman Kavlekar, Cortalim sarpanch, Mr Caitano Xavier, All Goa Congress Minority Department chairman, Mr Saifullah Khan, besides others. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Amonkar highlighted the importance of nuclear deal. He congratulated the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and All India Congress Committee president, Ms Sonia Gandhi for successfully signing of the nuclear deal.
