With the tourist season knocking at the door, Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik today made it clear that the state will not tolerate rave parties or drug dealing. “We will not allow the drug trade or rave parties to be held this year,” Ravi Naik said.
Naik was briefing the media after a high-level meeting of the police and claimed that the high volume of drug recoveries was ample proof that the police were on their toes. Meanwhile, Goa will soon have a Narcotics Control Bureau office to curb rising incidents of drug peddling in the state, said top police officials. Director General of Police B S Brar told the media this afternoon, that on their request, the NCB has agreed to set up the office this tourist season, beginning later this month.

Brar briefed the media after the meeting in the presence of the Home minister. The DGP said officials of the NCB held a meeting with the Goa Police where intelligence on the drug trade was shared. The state police has also started incentives for its constabulary to motivate them to collect intelligence to thwart any likely terror threats in the coming season. “We have reinvigorated the beat system so that beat constables can keep an eye in order to avoid any untoward incident during this tourist season,” said DGP Brar.
“We want to make sure that if there are any terrorists in the state, they have a tough time taking any shelter in homes or hotels. Our beat system plans to cover each home and hotel in the state,” he added. The lower constabulary will now be regularly given monthly awards and certificates of merit for good work put it on their beats.
