Aged between 20-30 months, these tigers would be held in enclosures before releasing them into the reserve. These will be joined by another pair of tigers also to be released at the Park in couple of months.
Meanwhile, one village from the 28 villages inside the reserve has already been relocated with the remaining to follow suit in a time bound schedule. The aim is to create a tiger-friendly environment and in the hope that their dwindling numbers will soon increase.
AGING ELEPHANTS TO FIND SHELTER AT OLD AGE HOME: In a few months from now the Kerala Forest Department will open the first old age home for captive elephants in the country at Kottoor. Five enclosures have already been set up and the first phase is likely to be ready in the next two months. The project when completed will house 30 elephants. Fodder for the elephants will be grown at the site itself and elephants will indeed roam free without any chains.

SPECIAL FEATURE
INDIA’S FIRST GREEN HOTEL TO COME UP IN HYDERABAD IN 2009: India will have its first green hotel — The Park Hotel in Hyderabad. This 280-room hotel, scheduled to start operations by mid-2009 will have a 90% designated non-smoking area. The Hyderabad property, will seek US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) certification. At present there are around nine eco-friendly hotels in the country with ECOTEL certification. An eco-friendly hotel is constructed using recycled materials, whereas a green building aims at saving energy. Though the initial cost of construction is almost 15% higher for a green hotel, costs can be recovered through efficiency in operations. A green hotel saves 34.7% of energy costs. The Oberoi Group also has two green hotel projects in the pipeline — one each in Hyderabad and Goa.
PERMANENT FEATURE – GOA
SAVE FROGS CAMPAIGN IN GOA: First of its kind in India, a group of wildlife enthusiasts in Goa have got their acts together and are all set to spread the awareness amongst locals, students, urban dwellers and villagers alike that frogs are an important & integral part of ecological chain and they should not be killed just for momentary pleasure of taste buds. Because of their dwindling population, Goa has seen a rise in mosquitoes population and also the snakes having got less prey, venture into inhabited area. Most of all, it is illegal and law has banned its killing since 1985, just like wild boar, deers, black bucks, tigers, leopards, etc. Point is to be noted that well known star like Salman Khan and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi too have faced law because of such allegations. Any individuals / restaurants in Goa indulging into this activity are likely to face stern action by law authorities as now public has also awakened to save Goa on all fronts, besides the land and hill cutting issues.
