Limited Land For Industrial Units in Small States

Mr Shantaram Naik M.P. said that institutions like CAPEXIL which assists exporters in the matter of international trade should advise the entrepreneurs who seek to establish industrial units in small states like Goa that they should seek a reasonable area of land ,and that , they should not be seen as greedy land grabbers.

Mr Naik , who was addressing as Chief Guest, businessmen from Africa ,Egypt and other countries at a meet organized by CAPEXIL, an institution sponsored and supported by Union Commerce Ministry, further said that Goa had a bad experience with entrepreneurs coming down with primary objective of cornering vast tracks of land in the name of industrialization ,and therefore, Goa had no option than to oppose SEZ totally.

Mr Naik said in the last five years, Indias exports have grown from US $ 63 billion in 2003 to US $ 168 billion in 2008 , and that, our share of global merchandise trade from 0.83% in the year 2003-04 to 1.45% in the year 2008-09 as per WTO estimates.

Indias share of global commercial services export was 1.4% in 2003 which rose to 2.8% in 2008. Indias total share in goods and services was 0.92% in 2003; it increased to 1.64% in 2008.

Almost 14 million jobs were created directly or indirectly as a result of augmented exports in the last five years, Mr Naik said.

Mr Naik said that immediate task of the Government was to prevent decline in trends in export and keep a reasonable target of 15% growth over 2010-11 and in the next three years thereafter government proposes to take exports to 25% growth level.

Mr Naik said that CAPEXIL should ensure that no Indian exporter spoils the name of country by resorting to mal- practices, although, he said , that this number is negligible.

Mr Margan James, Assistant Minister of Government of Kenya , who attended the meeting with a four member delegation , said that India has a vital role to play in WTO, and that, he agreed with Mr Naik that morality is very vital in international trade.

Shri S.K.Ghai of Capexil delivered a welcome address and Shri A.M.S.G Ashokan , Chairman Misc Products Panel ,Capexil proposed vote of thanks.
