The ?Tree Protection Act enacted by Goa Legislative Assembly around 25 years back is one of the ideal environment Legislation enacted by Congress Government in Goa needs to be implemented vigorously said Shri Shantaram Naik MP & GPCC President while planting saplings ?on the occasion of Tree Plantation Programme organized by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee with the assistant of Congress Seva Dal .

He further said that under the Act any one cuts the tree even in his own compound has to replace it by planting a tree of the same nature or any other tree specified by the Forest ?authorities . Shri Naik also said that similarly even in the garden lands or private forest, the trees which are cut with the permission of forest department have to be replaced by planting equal numbers of trees of same nature or ones specified by the forest Department.

He further said that the environment Act enacted during the Regime of late. Shri. Rajiv Gandhi is one of the most important legislation having extreme relevance in environment protection in the country. Under this Act number ?of regulations and notification have been issued to protect the environment in the county.

He also said that nationalization of six rivers in Goa is one of the most Anti- Environment steps taken by the state Govt. which needs to be opposed tooth and nail.

While addressing at the function Shri. Shambu Bhau Bandekar, Treasurer and Ex- Dy. Speaker said that it is the responsibility of every citizen to participate in tree plantation programe.

Dr. Ulhas Parab, Gen. Secretary GPCC in his brief address at the time of tree plantation programme said that the trees play vital role in balancing the oxygen in the air which is important to all living beings. He said that if 50% of the Goa`s Population plant one tree in a year the lakhs of tress will grow annually in Goa.

Earlier Shri Altinho Gomes Gen. Secretary GPCC while welcoming the Congress Office Bearers, Seva Dal workers and Congress man gathered at the venue to take part in tree plantation drive appealed to plant the trees to make Goa green and beautiful.
