With the three years of experience of holding International Film festival at its account, The state Government through its premier institution of “Kala Academy” is now all set to organise a Festival of the International Short Films, Documentary and Animation Films, at the Academy complex from April 28 to May 2.The inaugural session of the festival is likely to be attended by the noted film actors, Aamir Khan and Rahul Bose, while the guest of honor will be the celebrated short film-maker, Anand Patwardhan. The five-day festival is being held in association with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as well as the Department of Information and Publicity, Goa, informed the vice-chairperson of Kala Academy, Mr Jitendra Deshprabhu. Organizers will also invite renowned actresses from the Indian screen, further said Deshprabhu..
Around 75 short films/documentaries/animation films - including those produced by the Films Division and about two-dozen productions by the Goan film ïž– makers ïž– will be screened at the “Dinanath Mangueshkar auditorium”as well as the Black Box. All productions will be in the DVD format and their duration will range from 3 to 50 minutes, he added.
It was informed that the films will be screened from 11 a.m. to 7 p. m. Mr Deshprabhu informed that those desiring to attend the festival can register themselves with the Academy. After payment of Rs.100 per person towards the registration fee, they will be issued identity cards. “The event will try to give a major thrust in promoting the local talent in the field of films. Though the festival is in the formation stage, we want to make it an annual affair. The films will be screened on non ïž– competitive basis, this year, but we desire to have a competitive evaluation of the entries with awards and certification”, informed Deshprabhu.
The local film producers and directors as well as members of the film clubs will be invitees for this Film festival. The technical staff of the Films Division as well as Kala Academy will help in the smooth organization of the festival.
