GoaThe 38th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will be held here from November 23 to December 3, with the organisers considering diluting the “carnival touch” associated with the mega event.

“We are finalising the draft of the memorandum of understanding to be signed between the Goa information and publicity department and the Directorate of Film Festivals,” Nandini Paliwal, CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), the nodal agency for IFFI, said Friday.

Officials of the Goa and Central governments met in Delhi on Tuesday and worked out a memorandum of understanding that will be signed to delegate responsibilities to various agencies for the event.

“This time, we are trying to have more focus on cinema. There is a suggestion from the Centre to have minimal peripheral activities, which is being considered,” Paliwal said.

The tourist state had attracted criticism from film professionals for giving a “carnival touch” to the festival by holding peripheral activities like float parades and creating an “animation street” to link the venues, the Kala Academy and Old Goa Medical College complex.

The final decision on trimming peripheral activities will be taken by ESG’s governng board, she said.
