After a long, self-imposed exile, Goa’s best-known singer is all set to rock Bollywood once more with a vibrant Goan song in Joe Rajan’s upcoming film ‘Luv U Soniyo’
The last time you heard him on the big screen was when he belted out the hit track, ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’, as only he can. But, after making the charts, Goa’s very own Remo Fernandes all but vanished from the Bollywood music scene, content to do his own thing in his state-of-the-art studio at his ancestral home in Siolim.
Now, says the Bollywood grapevine, he is all set to make a big comeback as a Bollywood playback singer in Joe Rajan’s ‘Luv U Soniyo’, a feel-good romance which marks the debut of former screen siren Rati Agnihotri’s son Tanuj Virwani and former Miss India Neha Hinge. And Remo will sing a Goan number. There is a reason for the Goan-style song in the film, as the main character is Goan. The song, we hear, has a very bouncy rhythm and a very catchy tune that anyone can hum, with a strong Goan flavour. Says film director Joe Rajan, it was Rati’s idea to get aGoan song to suit her son’s character inthe film and that’s when the singer’s name came up in the discussion. However, everyone wondered whether he was still singing Bollywood songs, as he had kept away from the industry for well over a decade. That was when Madhur Bhandarkar, Rajan’s close friend, offered to speak to Remo. While the Goan musician hasn’t done the music for the song – the music has been composed by young upcoming music director Vipin Patwa – he has got involved and contributed much beyond his brief as a singer, apart from composing and singing a special number as guest music director.Remo has roped in Margao’s Sai Palondikar to include some Konkani lyrics, while the Hindi lyrics are by Abhijeet Deshpande. The scratch is ready, and the song is to be recorded this week.Remo earlier Bollywood hits include ‘Yeh hai Jalwa’, ‘Humma Humma’ and ‘Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha’.
