Goa Finance Minister Dayanand Narvekar on Tuesday resigned from the Cabinet to pave way for the induction of United Goans Democratic Party’s (UGDP) unattached MLA Atanasio Monserratte.

“Narvekar has resigned and Congress is very much thankful to him for sacrificing for the cause of the party,” All India Congress Committee General Secretary B K Hariprasad told PTI.

Hariprasad, who is down in Goa, said the Congress Minister resigned to fulfil the promise made by the party to provide a cabinet berth to the UGDP legislator for helping the Kamat Government tide over the political crisis last year.

Besides Finance, Narvekar, was also looking after Law and Information Technology portfolios.
