while the senior members of ruling coalition along with the chief minister Digamber Kamat are in the capital, New Delhi to settle the issues of Cabinet berths and portfolios, the Governor S. C. Jamir has convened the first session of the newly elected 11th state Assembly on 15th of June.
The Session is called with the agenda of elections of speaker and the Dy. Speaker for the state Assembly and delivering the oath of legislative members to the newly elected 40 legislators. This will be a preliminary trial of strength for the ruling coalition on the floor of the house.
In the house of 40 members the ruling coalition led by the Congress party is having total strength of 23, with 16 MLAs from congress, 3 from NCP, two from MGP and the support of two independents. The opposition party BJP, on the other side is having 14 members supported 2 from SGF and a lone UGDP MLA.
The ruling coalition has decided the former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane to be the speaker, while the MLA for the post of DY. Speaker is still undecided. The Dy. Speaker will be decided after the outcome of discussions that are ON in New Delhi with the party High commands.
The three member NCP is asking for three berths in the cabinet of maximum 12 members strength and a corporation for its member. There are currently four ministers already inducted in the cabinet along with the Chief Minister Digamber Kamat. The NCP and MGP, the alliance partners already have got one berth each in the cabinet.
