Bhakti Kulkarni today crushed Rucha Pujari of Maharashtra with black pieces and stopped Rucha’s winning streak in girls section in the 41st National Junior (U-19) Open and 26th Junior (U-19) Chess Championship played in south Goa.
Bhakti won the game in 61 moves at the end of the seventh round. Both are in joint lead with six points each. Ivana Furtado and Pon Nkrutikha of Tamil Nadu played out a quick draw after 13 moves on second board. She is on 5.5 points along with Nkrutikha, Pratusha Bordda of Andhra Pradesh, A Akshaya of TN,
Saranya J of TN and Lasya G of AP. Bharathi R of TN, K Sai Nirupama of AP, Roy Pallabi of West Bengal and Aparajita Gochikar of Orissa are tied with five points each. While in the open event, IM P Shyam Nikhil of TN, FM Diptyan Ghosh of WB and IM Priyadarshan K of TN are tied with six points each at the end of seventh round. IM P Shyam Nikhil of TN beat Stany G A of Karnataka, FM Diptyan Ghosh of WB beat Swayams Mishra of Orissa, IM Priyadarshan K of TN beat IM Anwesh Upadhyaya of Orissa. Anurag Mhamal of Goa held IM Nitin S of TN on the second board, sharing the point. Both are on 5.5 points along with Sameer Katmale of Maharashtra, WGM Padmini Raut of Orissa. Ankit Rajpara of Gujrat, Rakesh Kulkarni of Maharashtra and Aravindh Chitambaram of TN.
