The Folk Dance Competition which was a part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations of the Ruwi Church, Oman, was held on October 11, 2007 on the church premises.

The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Raoul flagged off the competition with an opening prayer.

The Chief Guest for the evening was Mr. Baltazar Fernandes, General Manager for Loay International LLC.  The eminent judges were Mrs. Srimathi, Mrs. Suganthi Guruprasad and Mrs. Sushma Gandhi.  All three of them are noted for their contribution to dance, Choreography and Music.

The dances were judged on Rhythm, Costumes and Choreography.  It was a tough competition from start to finish as the groups performed skillfully on a wide variety of themes that included the coastal dances of Goa and Karnataka to the more vigorous dances of Rajasthan and Punjab and a beautiful dance from the Philippines.  The colourful costumes, the co-ordination of movements and the selection of catchy tunes had the audience spellbound throughout the evening.  It was obvious that the participants had practiced painstakingly to get every step right.

Out of a total of fourteen groups, three groups emerged winners.  However winning performances were given by all the dancers who participated in their respective groups.

The charming compere for the evening was Karishma Gonsalves.
