Farmers in the district on Friday blocked vehicular traffic on Mumbai-Konkan Goa road protesting acquisition of their land for special economic zones (SEZs), police said.
An estimated 5000 farmers blocked the road at Vadkhal, about 25 km from here. The protest was called off after they were informed about Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh’s announcement in the Legislative Council that the state government was not going to acquire land for SEZs.
