Muslims in Goa celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with great pomp and gaiety all over the state. Prayers were offered in mosques and Idgahs followed by exchanging of sweets with their brethren from other faiths.

The Imam of Jama Masjid, Maulana Muhammad Ali Kadri appealed to the Muslims to be tolerant and maintain peace and communal harmony “as this is what the month of Ramadan teaches us.”

Eid-ul-Fitr

Muslims offer prayers during Eid-ul-Fitr at Campal, Panjim, on Sunday.

Delivering the main surmon at the Campal grounds this morning, the Maulana prayed to the almighty to give better sense to all regardless of caste, race and religious faith.

He also urged the rich to show mercy towards the poor by donating generously to them so that they too celebrate Eid.

Former Governor of Goa, Dr Fazal Ahmed, and president of Panaji Jama Masjid, Mr Shaikh Mustafa Kadar were the prominent attendees for the Namaz.

  1. Strange prayer, on the day of Eid we ask Rich to show mercy towards poor? their due should be given one or two days earlier or before Eid prayers, so that they buy food/clothes.
