Goa’s Congress politicians will miss outgoing governor S C Jamir who has been transferred to Maharashtra. Jamir has been instrumental in saving the Digambar Kamat government twice in the last year. The government, limping along on a wafer-thin majority was on the brink twice, but survived with a help from Jamir.

Francisco Sardinha, MP and state Congress president said, “Jamir was a good governor and a nationalist. He was an asset to Goa. The chief minister could count on his vast experience for guidance at times of trouble.”

MP Shantaram Naik has described as unfortunate the BJP attack on the governor. “Jamir was charged for issuing an ordinance to increase the contingency fund. But BJP overlooked the fact that a similar ordinance had been issued by a former governor who was appointed by the BJP,” said Naik and commented that the same governor had dismissed Rane’s government even after it had passed a finance bill.
