Babush MonseratteThe State Government is seriously considering handing over the case of alleged manhandling of Taleigao MLA Babush Monseratte and his family and the attack on policemen by a morcha led by him on February 19 to the CBI.

Advocate General Subodh Kantak told the Court today the Government wants an investigation into the happenings including how policemen deployed outside Panjim police station were attacked by agitators.

Monseratte in his petition filed before the Bombay High Court at Goa has demanded a CBI investigation into alleged “police brutalities” inflicted on him, wife Jennifer Monseratte, son Amit Monserrate and Mayor of Panjim Tony Rodrigues. The counsel for the petitioner Atmaram Nadkarni and the Advocate General locked horns trying to point how the other was wrong.

The Advocate General pointed out that the morcha was not peaceful as claimed – it was a “terror attack” on the police station – vehicles were burnt outside the police station.
On the other hand Adv Nadkarni said men-in-uniform misused their authority and assaulted elected representatives. The hearing was adjourned till Monday next as Advocate General assured he would make a statement with respect to petitioner’s demand to hand over the case to CBI.
