Mr. Manohar Asgaonkar, MLA of Dhargal Constituency in Pernem Taluka, resigned from Goa Assembly today on 8th January, 2007 early morning by a dramatic move. Later at around 1100Â hrs he joined the Indian National Congress in presence of Smt Margaret Alva, Gen. Secretary AICC and in charge of Goa Desk and the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Ravi S. Naik. Several Ministers , MLA`s and Senior party office bearers. Lot of supporters of Shri Asgaonkar witnessed the event.
In a surprised move, soon around 1215Â hrs Mr, Asgaonkar was sworn in as Minister. The vote of office and Secrecy was administered by the Governor Shri S.C. Jamir in presence of the Chief Minister of Goa Shri Pratapsingh Rane, AICC Gen. Secretary, Smt Margaret Alva, several Cabinet Ministers, MLA`s and party office bearers.
It is assumed that, the resignation of Shri Asgaonkar is a severe blow to the BJP in Goa and advantage to the Congress Party.
