The government officials have put the estimated loss suffered by the Bicholim and Sattari talukas due to the recent floods at Rs 1.25 crore.
The Collector (North Goa), Mr Mihir Vardhan, speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’ said that this figure is restricted to the damage caused by the floods to the shops and houses only.
“The damage suffered by the agricultural plantations is still being estimated and it would take some time before any figure is reached,” he added.
The Collector (North Goa) also said that the Collectorate has put up a proposal before the government for releasing funds to the tune of Rs 70 lakh. “This fund is expected to be released within next two days,” he said, adding “the money would go towards paying initial compensation of Rs 10,000 to the people hit by the floods as announced by the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat.”It is learnt that till date around 700 people have been identified as those worst hit by the natural calamity on the night of September 27.
Meanwhile, the silt and the debris left behind by the flood waters have been cleared by the staff of the department of fire services.
