Immigration officials at Dabolim airportsent back 33 Russians who had arrived early Sunday morning to celebrate the New Year, as their tour operator failed to carry out the procedure for group landing permit (GLP).
An immigration officer said, “The tour operator has to ask for GLP at least three days in advance. In this case the flight was scheduled to land at 10pm on Saturday and the agency asked for the permit the same morning.”
As the GLP was refused, the concerned authorities in Russia were informed not to send the group to Goa. “In spite of that the charter arrived with 33 passengers and demanded the GPL,” the official said.
The official further added, “GPL is an exception and not a rule. Only when we are satisfied with the procedure, we permit it for a group of more than four, for a period of about 14 days.”
The same tour operator was given GLP for 14 tourists the same day as procedures were followed. Sources said, “This was done to make sure that airlines and tour operators adhere to the rules and regulations strictly.”
