The Tourism department on Sunday allotted 305 beach shack licences for the coming tourist season. In north Goa 199 licences and in south Goa 106 licences were issued.
However, the tourism department deferred a decision on granting licences for setting up shacks in Cavelossim in view of the Bombay High Court order to keep the matter in abeyance. Similarly the department withheld a decision on issuing permits to set up these temporary structures in Nerul and Dando, Candolim.
Speaking to TOI, tourism director Elvis Gomes said, “We have to wait till the water level recedes.” Both beaches are currently submerged and the water is likely to recede only around January.

Unlike in the past where the tourism department license came last, shack owners will now have to obtain licences from the Excise department, Food and Drugs administration and the Electricity department only after getting the permits from the tourism department. Successful bidders will be given letters from the Tourist department addressed to the concerned department requesting the latter to provide the licences.
